Designer thoughts
“I was inspired by my trips to eastern Europe, where I found rural homes with walls covered with textiles, floors covered with painted tiles and mirrors decorated with stained-glass foil. Simple means, but full of compassion. The carefully structured decorations inspired me to make a grid, within which I could use various lines and colors to create different patterns. The mirror, textiles and rugs in the IKEA PS 2014 collection are all based on the exact same grid, but use different colors and repetitions to create new visual stories. Much like we do when decorating our homes."
